Saturday, 23 September, saw the Handsworth Autumn Pairs Open. It was a beautiful day, and a full field competed. Pairs came from as close as Sandwell Golf Club to as far away as Minehead Golf Club, with some regular participants returning.
With a little wind and the course in excellent condition generally, the scoring was excellent, and the top six pairs are as follows;
Sixth Place – Mark Heyward from Dudley Golf Club and Dave Cooper Hagley Golf Club scored 42 points (back 9 18).
Fifth Place – Loz Cox and Steve Cherry from Handsworth Golf Club also 42 points (back 9 20).
Fourth Place – Kevin and Richard Beard from Bewdley Pines Golf Club 42 points (back 9 22).
Third Place – Martin Moore and Russell Rice from Westonbirt Golf Club and Copsewood Golf Club, respectively 43 points.
Second Place – Mark Fletcher and Steve Hughes Handsworth Golf Club 45 points.
Winners – Joe McKeon and Sam Farnell from Hollywood Golf Club 48 points
In addition, we had prizes for nearest the pin on all the par 3’s.
4th hole – Matty Gordon
6th hole – Pete Bunce
13th hole – Blaine Guiney
17th hole – Matty Gordon

Following the golf, Handsworth captain Keith Rigby made a short speech. Thanking the visitors for their attendance, Gareth and his team for how they presented the course. Everybody agreed that the greens were fantastic. He also thanked Mel and the bar staff for keeping everyone lubricated and Laura and the catering team for providing the food.
Should anyone want to enter this event next year? It is likely to be held on the same Saturday. Open dates will be published within the next few weeks.
