Autumn Pairs Open Competition 2022

Our open competitions have attracted teams from around the country this past year, and our Autumn Pairs competition on Saturday, the 24th of September, was no exception.
Autumn Pairs Competition
Autumn Pairs Open winners Ian Wallington and Matt Gordon receiving their prizes from Club Captain Dave Horniblow.
Saturday, the 24th of September, saw this year’s Autumn Pairs Open, where a large field played Better Ball Stableford off 85% handicap. The weather was magnificent, and the course was in excellent condition, thanks to Gareth Waite and his green staff.
Some excellent scoring proved this. Seeing the clubhouse packed to the rafters was great as Lee Bashford announced the results. Despite many of the low handicappers claiming that the high handicappers always win these events, this event was won by two guys off single figures, with Ian Wallington shooting six gross birdies – well done, Ian!!

In his presentation speech, Lee, our club professional, thanked Gareth, the course manager and his green staff, the bar and catering staff and Paul and Clare in the Pro Shop.
The Captain then asked Karl Smith to stand up and show the effects a wayward shot can have as he was hit squarely by a ball between the eyes. This accident will likely leave him with two black eyes as he takes his wife out for their wedding anniversary!
The Captain then reminded the room that it is everybody’s responsibility to shout “fore” if a shot goes wayward. Many thanks to Lee for another delightful competition.
We want to thank everyone who participated, and we look forward to our final open competition of the year – The Men’s Open Seniors Winter Pairs- on the 3rd of November 2022.
