B Team bash

Thursday, 27th October, saw the Handsworth B Team bash take place. The B team Captain, Rob Anglin, invites all the teams we play during the season to enter a team to play for the B Team Trophy. Each team enters a team of four players who are split into two pairs. Both play ‘better ball’ off 85% of course handicap. We then add the two scores together to determine the Club score.
At the same time, the Handsworth team players are split into pairs for a better ball competition – again, off 85% handicap.
The day started badly with persistent rain, but this gradually cleared up, and we were able to get out onto the course. At around 3 o’clock, there was a roar out on the golf course, and we found out this was due to Gary Thompson having a hole-in-one. Surprisingly this was his first, and apparently, it was an excellent shot. I’m sure Gary will tell you himself sometime! Well done, Gary.
Congratulations Gary Thompson

The competitions were extremely closely fought.
The B Team Trophy was won by Harborne Hood (a combination of Harborne and Robin Hood) with 79 points beating Shirley by one point.
Harborne Hood – Glen Privett, Peter Hall, James Reilly and Steve Collins.
Shirley Golf Club – Phil Chance, Rob Sutton, Paul Dowd and Steve Marlow.
Winning Team
The winning team of Harborne Hood collected their trophy.
The Handsworth B Team members played a better ball competition which was extremely closely fought. The Club Captain, Dave Horniblow, was playing with the Chairman, Kebbie Uppal, and they scored a credible 44 points. This was beaten on a back 9 count back by brothers Yusif & Iqbal Suleman.
Well done Yusif and Iqbal.
We also had prizes for nearest the pin, which were as follows.
4th Hole – Rob Anglin
6th Hole – Gary Thompson (should a hole in one count to nearest the pin?)
13th Hole – Mohammed Boston
17th Hole – Roger Bennett
Following the golf, we had a delightful curry and presentation. Thanks were given to the Course Manager Gareth and his team for the presentation of the course, the bar staff for keeping us well watered, and also the kitchen for an excellent curry. There was also thank you for Lee Bashford for his work, not just on the day but also throughout the year supporting the B Team.
Rob Anglin then gave a short speech on the joys of B Team golf and the camaraderie it brings. He also thanked all members who have played for the team this year, especially those who have filled in at late notice. On that note, we would like to send a special thank you to Amrik Chopra, who stepped in at the last minute to make the numbers right.
