On Thursday, 19th October 2023, we held the Handsworth B Team Bash. At the BTeam Bash, the B team Captain, Winston McLean, invites all the opposition teams the B team have played during the season to enter a team for the B Team Trophy.
Each team enters a team of 4 players to play a “combined pairs better ball” (off 85% of their course handicap). At the same time, the Handsworth team players are split into pairs for a pairs better ball competition, again off 85 % handicap.

On Wednesday, heavy rain fell, which continued overnight. The course took it exceptionally well and was very playable. There were a couple of showers during play, but nothing too heavy. Following the golf, we had a delightful curry and presentation.
Teams closely fought the competitions. Robin Hood won the B Team Trophy with a very credible 81 points, beating Walmley by two points into second place. The team from Robin Hood were James Roberts, Tony Milton, Oliver Bagshaw and Barry Crutchly.
Pete Machin and Jaz Marwaha won the Handsworth B Team members competition with a magnificent 45 points. In second place were Dave Thursfield and Gary Fellows 41 points (Gary is Sutton’s B Team Captain and he had to swing after one of the home players arrived without his clubs! We shall leave his name anonymous)
We also had prizes for nearest the pin, which were as follows 4th – Phil Hill – Kidderminster 11a – Dave Eastland – Whittington 13th – Terry Cotton – Harborne 17th – Warren Robinson – Harborne
As is tradition on the Saturday before the B Beam Bash, the B team had an internal competition for the B Team Cup. Ex B Team Captain Pete Machin won this with a credible 37 points teeing off, as he does, at the crack of dawn! In second place was Steve Mullins (36 points), and in third place was Stuart Quaif (35 points).
After thanking Gareth and his team, the bar and kitchen staff and Lee, our club professional, Winston gave a short speech on the joys of B Team golf and its camaraderie. He also thanked all the members who had played for the team this year, especially those who had filled in at late notice.
