On Monday, 8th January, it was a cold and damp morning with the moon still over the fairway for the year’s first senior’s eclectic competition. A hardcore sixteen braved the conditions in an effort to win the winter-long competition. Dedicated or daft, you may ask? But definitely committed.
Clive Weaver, with an excellent score of 40 points, won the day, with immediate past Seniors Captain John Charlton runner up on 37 points.
The next Seniors Eclectic for the die-hards is Monday 6th, February.
February Update
Seniors February Eclectic Report
On Monday 6th, February, sixteen hardy souls turned out for the HGC Seniors February Eclectic on a cold and frosty morning. Despite the arctic conditions, half the field shot handicap or better, which was an amazing feat.
Andy Tomlinson was the top scorer with 42 points, with George Allen just a further point back with 41 points.
The Seniors Winter Eclectic competition is one of the toughest competitions to win at the club. This competition is fought over the first Mondays of each month over the Winter months. Each Monday, there is an individual Stableford competition and then an individual’s best four scores out of the six events are added together for their eclectic score.
Below are the current standings, and although Clive Weaver has a 5-point lead at present, he can still be beaten if Martin Keogh, the Seniors Captain, has a good round. Any score above 30 will improve Martin’s tally!
The final event of the Winter Stableford will take place early morning on Monday 6th, March, and the winner will be revealed shortly after that. You would think that was the end of it, but no ! the Seniors are gluttons for punishment and having finished the Winter eclectic Stapleford, they start the Summer Eclectic Stapleford.
We play the Summer Eclectic Stapleford over six Mondays in the summer using the same eclectic system. You must be persistent and consistent for half a year to win either of these competitions.
March Update
Seniors March Eclectic Report
Monday 6th, March was the final Seniors Winter Eclectic of the season. In the last event, victory went to recent returner Vijay Sehdev (VJ)with 37 points. The seniors’ captain Martin Keogh was second with 36 points.
Well played, VJ, back golfing after injury. Last year VJ took up the new practice ground membership to re-train his swing after injury with the help of Lee (our professional). It shows the hard work has paid off. If anyone is interested in practice ground membership, please get in touch with Lee Bashford in the Pro Shop.
Unfortunately, series leader Clive Weaver could not play the last event in March, and this left the door open for the Seniors Captain Martin Keogh to sneak through and take the series by a single point. After counting their highest four scores of the six available, Martin ended up with a total of 150, beating Clive’s score of 149.
Well done, Martin. He then had to find someone to present him with the spoils, and reluctantly, Terry Clewes, event organiser, stepped up to the plate. Martin then thanked Terry for all his work over the winter to keep the scores and ensure everyone paid their dues.
If anybody wants additional information about the Seniors or the eclectic, please get in touch with Martin Keogh, Seniors Captain or Lee Bashford in the pro shop.
