On July 27th, we held a team-of-four competition as part of the celebrations to mark the final weeks of our president’s tenure and his sixtieth year as a member of Handsworth Golf Club.
Everyone at the club would like to thank Frank for his time as president and for all he has done for the club over the years, including the Poolites, which he organises and still attends regularly to help maintain and repair parts of the course.
Frank, at the age of 78, is a very tidy golfer with a handicap of 7.3 and is also known by those who’ve played (and tried to keep up with him) for his brisk speed of play.
Frank would like to thank Lee (Club Professional), Paul (Assistant Professional), and everyone who attended to play, watch, celebrate and help organise the event. He also extends his appreciation to all those who sponsored, donated, and helped raise over £1,000. This money will go towards tangible clubhouse projects.
The Competition
Thirty teams took part in a challenging format, where two scores had to count on par fours and four scores on par threes and fives. The Greens Team again presented the course in fantastic condition, with many visitors and returning visitors describing it as stunning!
The results were as follows:
Winners with 110 points ( 14 under)
Dave Smallwood Bromsgrove GC
Nick Clifford Harborne GC
Tony Ormond Little Aston GC
John Larvin Harborne GC
Second Place with 103 points
Paul Stewart Aldridge Artisans
Karl Smith Handsworth GC
Mick Jones Handsworth GC
Mark Quigley Handsworth GC
Third Place with 103 points back 9 50 points
Rob Barker Stourbridge GC
Jim Toon Ludlow GC
Ian Wallington Handsworth GC
Matt Gordon Handsworth GC
It was great to see so many people in attendance, and it was fitting that three generations of the Wallington ‘Clan’ were present and took part.
Thank you again to everyone who attended and supported the event. We look forward to welcoming competitors to the Ladies 3 Ball Alliance (August 8th) and Texas Scramble Team Medal Open (Team of 4) (August 18th).
