Thursday, 21 September, saw the senior’s fourth away day of the year. This time, they travelled to Wrekin Golf Club. The course had dried out amazingly following Wednesday’s downpour, although because of the rain, the greens were slow but true.
There were plenty of prizes to play for with the top three individual Stableford scores, spot prizes for nearest the pin x3 and longest drive – and a team event with the best three scores out of each group of four to count on each hole. It’s a tough format for an away day.
Following the golf, players enjoyed an excellent Christmas dinner – turkey followed by Christmas pudding.
To the prizes:
The One Shot Wonders:
Nearest the pin Hole 2 – Dave Woodward
Nearest the pin hole 14 – Les Hall
Nearest the pin in 2 Hole 6 – Frank Tanner
Longest Drive – Martin Keogh
Team Competition
The opening group of Steve Bagshaw, Martin Keogh and Dave Woodward won the team competition with an excellent score of 111 points.
Individual Competition
The individual competition was closer, with the leading three scores being as follows:
Clive Weaver – 38 points
Steve Bagshaw – 36 points
Neil Jones – 35 points
As it was an away day, there was also a prize pot for twos, which amounted to some £20. Unfortunately, despite six par 3s on the course, nobody achieved one, so the money has been moved to the Christmas Fund (note the Seniors Christmas Dinner Friday, 8 December.) There was also a tote paying out to the top two players, who were backed by themselves and three other players each.
A big thanks from everyone went to the seniors’ captain, Martin Keogh, for organising this event and all the other matches and events this year. To be fair, Martin said he could not have done this event without the help of former senior member Steve Bagshaw.
