On Sunday, 15th April, we held our first open of 2023 – The Spring Pairs Open. Even though the course was a little wetter than we had hoped, it was still in great shape, given the time of year and the recent rain. It was good to see the maximum number of entrants and great to welcome visitors from different golf clubs around the country. It was also lovely to have a day essentially free of rain after the wet wintery conditions we’ve encountered recently.
Winners
There were some impressive scores, with the winners, Mark Hodgkinson and Robert Moore from Warley Woods and Pype Hayes, respectively, posting an excellent score of 47 points.
Second Place
Mark and Robert narrowly beat John Rowley & Steve Reynolds from Brampton Heath / Bewdley Pines with a better back nine of 25 points.
Third Place
Mark Fletcher and Steve Hughes (both members at Handsworth) were in third place with 45 points and also enjoyed a superb back nine of 25 points.
There was a bit of banter and discussion in the clubhouse afterwards about who carried who, but we have it ‘from the horse’s mouth’ that both were on fire.
Fourth Place
In fourth place with 44 points were Lee Nightingale and Gino Ruffinato from Bewdley Pines Golf Club. You can see the full competition result here.
What An Ace
As part of the winning pair, Robert Moore also bagged a hole-in-one on the 198 yards par 3, thirteenth. This followed Sheree Thompson’s hole-in-one at the same hole last week.
In addition to the hole-in-one, plenty of twos were shared between thirteen players. Congratulations to Stuart Corbett and Steve Thomas, who helped themselves to two twos each.
Thank you to everyone who took part, and we look forward to welcoming all who entered the Ladies 3 Ball Open on May 7th, closely followed by the May Team Of 3 Open on May 26th.
You can see the complete list if you want to enter any of this year’s open competitions.
