On Thursday, the 6th of July, we saw a field of 26 players competing in this year’s Warwickshire Senior Amateur Championships.
There was a heavy downpour before the start of play, and players had to contend with some breezy conditions.
With the Top 8 players entering the Senior Matchplay Championship, the result was as follows:
The champion for this year is Stephen Creed (Stratford on Avon), who managed the conditions very well. His impressive (gross) level par 70 includes one birdie and just one bogey.
Warren Bladon (Kenilworth) was runner-up, with an equally impressive (gross) 71.
Peter Gordon (Olton) narrowly took third place with a (gross) 75 (better back 9) from Roger Parfitt (Coventry), who missed third place on countback with his excellent (gross) 75.
Neville Gardner (Stoneleigh Deer Park), Kevin Henderson (Maxstoke Park), and Shaun Young (Maxstoke Park) finished in joint fifth place – all shooting a (gross) 76.
Our very own Phil Murphy qualified in eighth place with a (gross) 77, just shading it from Roger Neale (The Welcombe), who finished ninth with a (gross) 77.
The best net score of the day went to James Lamond (Kenilworth), who won the Bill Dudley Evans Salver.
The Jim Dean Cup (Aged 60 – 64) went to Peter Gordon (Olton). While The Carl Bretherton Salver (Aged 65-69) went to Steve Reynolds (Maxstoke Park).
We want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped organise the event, and of course, to everyone who participated. There were some fantastic scores posted, congratulations to all the winners,
