On Sunday, 19th February, participants in our Winter Stableford Pairs (Greensomes) enjoyed a good day’s weather, considering the time of year. The greens were faster than in recent weeks, and the course was in fine condition.
With nine drives to count for each player and each pairing playing off 60% and 40% of their respective handicaps, it was a testing format, with quite a few pairs failing to break 30 points.
The Winners!
While some pairings struggled, the winning pairing, Danny Sidhu and Leon McLean, seemed to excel, accumulating an impressive 43 points and finishing 5 points clear of their nearest rivals.
Here are Leon (left) and Danny (right) receiving their prizes at the presentation in a busy clubhouse afterwards.
We want to thank the bar and catering staff who kept everyone fed and watered as some of us got to sample the new menu.
Congratulations!
Danny’s first-ever hole-in-one on the par three 4th hole undoubtedly helped them towards such a clear victory.
You could hear Danny’s celebrations from neighbouring holes on the course. It was nice to see his playing partner (Leon) and Gary and Sheree Thompson, who played alongside them, celebrating just as enthusiastically with him.
There’s an “unofficial” rule which has become a tradition among golfers. To be fair to Danny, he obliged and still had an equally big smile after seeing his bill in the clubhouse.
Congratulations, Danny.
2023 Open Competitions
This year’s Open Competitions are filling up nicely. If you’ve played in any of our Opens, you’ll know it’s a great day’s golf. If you haven’t, it’s an excellent way to test yourself on a mature parkland course.
Considering the time of year, the course is in great shape, and we’ve seen significant improvements on and around the course. The new elevated tee on the first hole should be in use by the time we hold our first open competition in April.
If you are interested in playing any of the competitions at Handsworth Golf Club, please see the complete list of our Open Competitions.
We look forward to welcoming you.
